Get the Showcase Edge with our new box technology
Have you ever wondered how Apple makes those lovely, crisp-edged boxes for their iPhones? There’s good reason why people are so entranced by Apple unboxing videos – the boxes are just as aesthetically pleasing as the products inside. They feel great to the touch and add a professional polish to anything found inside.
Like Apple, we know the importance of an excellent first impression. That’s why we wanted to learn the secrets of the iPhone box, and so we visited China (the phone packaging capital of the world) to find out how it’s done. We visited the factories that pioneered the technology, and spoke to the companies that produce the equipment required to make them.
Once there, we bought the right machinery to help us on our quest for the perfect box. We also received training on exactly how to get the best results every time we craft a box.
We soon learned that it wasn’t as easy as we first thought! Tolerances are so tight, and so it took time to master the technique and to get perfect results every time. It was a steep learning curve with lots of trial and improvement.
All of this new knowledge meant that we had to re-design our workflow and parametric CAD models. We won’t bore you with too many of the details, but rather than scoring the board to make a fold, we needed to make a V cut on the inside of the board. This then folds neatly at a 90-degree angle to create a sharp corner on the outside of the box.
The result? It looks contemporary, clean, smart, and sexy. When you or your clients handle one of our new boxes, they can instantly tell that something special is inside. We couldn’t be prouder of our new boxes, and we know that our clients are excited, too. They love the look and are asking for our unique technique more and more. In fact, they have started to refer to it as the “Showcase Edge” when ordering. We now make more ‘Showcase Edge’ boxes than those with our traditional scored edges! Clearly, we’re on to something. Over the past year, we have developed this technique even further, and we can create sharp edges on both trays and cases. We can use this technique on any order quantity, from one to thousands, and we can wrap the boxes in any of our standard materials. The V cut technique also works great in place of creases on ring binders to give that luxury “lay-flat” feel.
The results are fantastic; it doesn’t cost much more to do things this way. If you need your product to stand out, then perhaps the “Showcase Edge” is what you’ve been looking for? Get in touch with us today, and let’s talk about how the Showcase Edge can take your packaging to the next level.
