Case Study: Le Vignoble Ensoleillé – Magnum Wine Launch Packaging

When tasked with designing bespoke packaging for the launch of Ridley Scott’s limited edition Magnum wine, we knew this project would be something special. With 400 boxes required for an exclusive release, every detail had to be perfect to reflect the prestige of both the vineyard and the product.

The Brief

The client needed premium presentation boxes for their Magnum wine bottles, timed for a highly anticipated launch coinciding with the release of Gladiator II. The boxes needed to embody sophistication while being practical for showcasing and protecting the wine. Initially, another supplier had created a sample, but the client was dissatisfied with the quality, leading them to enlist our expertise.

The brief also included a creative element: a coin holder and note holder, which needed to be integrated into the packaging while ensuring the coin remained visible and presented elegantly. 

The Challenge

Achieving the perfect blend of form and function for the coin holder proved to be challenging. The coin had to be secure yet visible, blending into the overall design. Achieving the right balance required multiple iterations to refine the fitment. The vineyard supplied artwork elements, which we used to produce a consistent and elegant design. A standout feature of the packaging was the inclusion of hand-drawn sketches by Ridley Scott, depicting characters from Gladiator II. 

The hinged shouldered boxes were also highly detailed, with a mix of finishes:

  • A black Wibalin® base 

  • Full-colour printing with anti-scuff lamination

  • Gold foil embellishments

  • Custom foam fitments and toppers to protect and present the Magnum bottles.

 

The Outcome

We delivered 400 bespoke presentation boxes, each meticulously crafted. The striking combination of the black-lined base, gold foil accents, and printed hinge elevated the overall design.

Throughout production, we kept the client updated with photos, ensuring the design met their expectations at every stage. Producing packaging for such a prestigious vineyard was an absolute pleasure, and we’re thrilled to have played a part in showcasing their limited-edition release.
